Book I’m Reading
I started reading this one because the Foundation series by Asimov is considered seminal. Even Elon Musk recommends the series.
I’ve not been impressed with it. Maybe the problem is with me? I don’t know. It seems to bounce around too much, moving forward in time too quickly without adequate detail to keep up. I won’t be continuing in the series.

^ This one is a fascinating series of articles exploring how the US could descend into Fascism. I believe the US is near a tipping point in our nation’s lifecycle. History is filled with cycles that repeat, largely because human nature remains unchanged. Many other nations throughout history have experienced periods of populism as we are right now. More often than not, these periods end in either fascism (the hard right wins the internal struggle), or socialism (the hard left wins).

I’m excited to tell you about my new paper with @umitgurun. We document a striking new fact: Birth rates in the US are robustly lower in areas of higher local racial diversity, after controlling for a huge range of alternative factors. We then try to understand why this is.

Let’s not kid ourselves. A political earthquake happened today. The GOP no longer has a pro-life platform, nor does it have a pro-life nominee for president.
