Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War

I’m about halfway through this book and I can’t believe the hardships the Pilgrims experienced.

To travel the treacherous Atlantic as late in the season as they did was only the beginning. The real difficulty came after they landed in New England. They battled internal and external opposition, surprisingly sometimes not so graciously, to simply survive.

We are so soft today.

I’ve listened to the Pomp Podcast for years. I don’t catch every episode, but the one this week was excellent.

Mel Mattison is a macro analyst who is active on X, sharing insights and charts on everything from Bitcoin to real estate.

On Bitcoin

Lots of people repeat the phrase, “Bitcoin fixes this.”
 
I want to be clear: there are many things that Bitcoin will NOT fix.
 
Bitcoin will not fix:
  • wealth inequality
  • elites using power to oppress others
  • (in the short- to mid-term) government overspending
 
Bitcoin won’t fix these things because it cannot.
 
These are all symptoms of our sinful human nature.
 
Only the power of God working through the transformative gospel of Jesus Christ can fix these things.
 
The gospel does it one person at a time, by replacing our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh. It does it from the inside out, by replacing our old man with the new man, recreated in Christ.
